“They were true artists, and really researchedthe time periodand the looks.

“It was more about asking ‘What were women really wearing in this year specifically?

Did this color lipstick even exist?'”

“It’s not like women werecontouring their cheeks.

The makeup was actually very simple, and so was the hair.

That commitment to accuracy actually caused some on-set conflict when Brie was filming two hit shows at once.

“We wanted to age up the [stereotypical] ‘horse girl.’

Mentally she’s trapped in preteen mentality, but she is a woman in her 30s, she explains.

She also says Sarah’s wallflower proclivities and her struggle to discern reality from imagination meantminimal makeup.

Sarah’s hair, though, evolved from conception to release.

“From the start, we set out to give me a pretty lame haircut,” she laughs.

That commitment is also about sinking into her roles more effortlessly.

“It’s really about the art; I want to disappear into these characters,” she adds.
