It was ballsy to name a fragrance “You.”

Yous success, however, wasn’t just its provocative name (although, that certainly helped).

And the name is just as ambitious as the first: Glossier Fleur.

Baghriche didnt give the new floral family a name, but Ill attempt to: a floral skin scent.

Perfumers are also having fun trying to freshen up the category, and quite literally so.

The classic interpretation [of florals] was opulent and rich, explains Givaudanperfumer Carine Certain Boin.

But now we want fluidity and freshness.

Glossier Fleur does this and then attempts to take it one step further.

Ylang-ylang, once known as the queen of the solar florals brings a brightness and creaminess to the scent.

For one, it’s what helps the floral notes smell more naturalistic.

Flowers are not only their petals, Baghriche explains.

Salt also enhances the skin-scent aspect of the fragrance.

The straightforward explanation of this is because our skin can smell a little bit salty when we sweat.

The more complicated reason comes down to chemistry.

Indoleis a molecule found in almost all floral notes that smells very animalistic, says Baghriche.

The salt accord therefore brings in that human, animalistic element but in a much lighter way.

It was all about how to make florals more human, she says.

Or, rather, how to make florals moreyou.

Its not that I dont like it.

Glossier You is an objectively beautiful scent.

But for some reason, its just never one Ive gravitated to.

Fleur, on the other hand, has me hooked.

Its the pop in of floral Ive been looking for without even knowing it.

Its like putting on a piece of clothing that immediately doesnt suit your personal style.

Smelling like a rose just never felt like me.

Fleur really does what Baghriche sought to achieve: its a floral that becomes one with you.

It mixes with your own skin scent, so it never feels overpowering.

That being said, on my skin, Fleur is pure compliment bait.

“It’s not what I expected for something called ‘Fleur,'” she says.

Glossier Fleur Eau de Parfum retails for $78 for 50 mL and will be available atglossier.comand sephora.com.
