It’s the first thingSarah Hylandsays to me over our Zoom call.
Sarah Hyland thinks my chaotically air-dried curls look magnificent.
That confidence boost is going to last me at least a week.
But we’re not here to talk about hair.

“Of course I’m already concerned about it.
I’m an actress,” she reminds me, though I don’t need reminding.
I loved her as Haley Dunphy onModern Family, which aired its series finale last April.

When I ask her if she ever air-dries, she’s more or less aghast.
“Oh god, no.
Because then I have no idea what’s going to happen.”
