Part of taking on this lifestyle was learning about the laws associated with it.
One of the biggies is keeping Shabbat.
Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest.
We also have two- and three-day holidays, like Rosh Hashanah and Passover, where the same rules apply.
But before I share all our long-lasting makeup secrets, let’s get some skin safety tips straight first.
So, yeah, that is certainly not ideal.
But sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do, right?
It happens and Dr. Wolinsky in those cases does have some tips to create the best skin situation possible.
She also suggests looking for non-comedogenic or non-pore-clogging, hypoallergenic makeup.
“It also contains aloe vera which is antibacterial and can help heal inflamed skin,” she says.
Of course, you should also be wearing sunscreen.
Afterward, a gentle cleanser can be used.
An exfoliating face wash will only exacerbate that.
Another crucial piece of advice?
Change your pillowcase after the back-to-back nights of sleeping in makeup.
This seems obvious but its so easy to forget.
Plus, switching it out once will remind you to change it back.
(They usually show up as “polymer” or “siloxane” on product labels.)
“Linear silicone-like dimethicone is actually classified as a skin protectant,” she explains.
Using a petrolatum-based product to seal in the moisture on your skin.
The Best Long-Lasting Makeup for Shabbat
Now, let’s get to the product list.
Julie Breslauer has always had a passion for makeup and loves experimenting with new products.
Her favorite products are E.L.F.
She sets the look with Maybelline’s Lasting Fix setting spray.
“I spray my face twice after I apply concealer and again after applying my bronzer.”
For her eyes, Breslauer loves Revlon’s ColorStay Brow Creator.
“It creates a nice base for my brows.”
“They’re incredibly soft and natural-looking.
She applies them with thisDuo lash glue, since “it will last 36 hours, minimum.”
Then, after moisturizing with Supergoop, she primes her face with the Cover FX Dewy Skin Primer.
“Less is more!
I also hear their matte version is amazing.”
Then she applies Too Faced Born This Way foundation with a Beautyblender.
For concealer, she loves Dior’s Forever Skin Correct.
“I just put two light drops under my eyes and set with a Beautyblender.”
She uses Milk Makeup cream blush in Werk right above the bronzer and blends with a Beautyblender as well.
When it comes to her eyes, she skips eyeshadow and finishes with mascara.
(Shes into MAC’s Magic Extension right now.)
And Bobbi Brown’s Hibiscus shade is one of her fave lipsticks.
She credits it with keeping her makeup on and in place.
Plus, she loves focusing her look on the eyes.
“There’s something fun about playing them up.”
So to start, she goes for Urban Decay’s eye primer.
When Jimenez-Fischman finds something that works, she generally sticks to it.
(She’s been a fan of some of these products for more than a decade.)
Her first go-to is Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof black eyeliner.
“This is the best.
I’ve tried to deviate but nothing replaces it.”
She also loves Charlotte Tilbury’s retractable brow pencil.
“This stays onsowell.
It keeps them so full-looking.”
She’ll follow that up with Benefits 24-hour Brow Setter Clear Brow Gel.
“This will keep your brows flawless for a two-day holiday easily.”
For mascara, her go-to is Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof.
“I’ll wake up after a night of wearing this and everything is still in place.”
Milk Makeup also has a lip and cheek stain in Werk that she says is really reliable.
To achieve a gorgeous look that stays put, Weissman says a cream eyeshadow is a great choice.
“I use MAC Paint Pots as an eye base with an eye shadow over them.”
For foundation, she loves the Temptu airbrush brand for “amazing lasting power.”
She’ll also sometimes use Face Atelier’s Ultra Foundation Pro or Makeup Forever’s Ultra HD Foundation Palette.
To set, her go-to is the Ben Nye Final Seal setting spray.
For her brand,Eli7, she creates apparel that features empowering Jewish words, phrases, and women.
Rishon uses that creative eye when applying makeup as well.
She loves Fenty Beauty and uses their primer followed by setting powder and foundation.
“Fenty Beauty foundation is an instant skin tone match for me and blends well.”
“Then Illbake my facefor at least 20 minutes.”
For a little color, she’ll top that with blush and a shimmer highlighter.
Lately, her go-tos are either from Juvia’s Place, ColourPop, or Fenty Beauty.
“The Fenty Beauty highlighter is strong.
A little goes a long way.”
For eyes, she’s found that Colourpop’s highly pigmented shadow really lasts the longest over Shabbat.
She also loves Colourpop’s Ultra Matte lipsticks.
Her favorite shades are LAX, Avenue, and Tulle.
Pro tip: “I only drink through a straw to prolong the longevity of the lipstick!”
For eyes, she loves GA-DE’s liquid eyeliner.
This layering technique, she says, has even held out over a three-day holiday.
She’ll prime her eyelids for shadow with Smashbox’s primer then lock it in with a nude shade.
Levene says she’s found that “natural shadows last the best without looking greasy.”
Levene splurges a little on her lips with thisChanel liquid lipstick.
For brows, she uses Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and Gel.
Chaiya Rivkah Channah Monas’s go-to lipstick is Maybelline New York’s Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick.
My only caution is take a stab at avoid oily foods as sometimes this can shorten its longevity.”
Another plus, she explains, is that it doesn’t dry out your lips.
Post-Shabbat, she makes sure to take care of her lips too.
Her favorite product for doing so is Revlon’s Kiss Exfoliating Balm.
“It’s a hardworking little tube of lip-rescue heaven.
For her eyes, she’s found Clarins 4D Waterproof mascara to be the best.
She loves a good shimmer and has really discovered what stays on well.
On top, she loves Maybellines eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze.
“Nothing has ever stayed on as long as this!”
When it comes to liner, Antelis-Schorr uses Maybellines TattooStudio Waterproof Pencil in Deep Onyx.
“This stands the test of time.
I’ve triedsoomany and have found this stays on the best without crumbling.”
On the inner corner of her eyes, she adds thisshimmer shadow stickby Sephora.
“It’s so pretty and sparkly.”
For lips, her number one go-to isWet n Wild’s MegaLast Lip Color.
“The color I like most is Mauve Outta Here.
This lipstick is cheap and stays on better than my MAC ones.
Rachel has really noticed the tiny details that make a difference when it comes to perfecting her makeup look.
Like some of the other women, she uses Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion.
“I’ve tried a few but keep going back to this one.”
The creamy consistency of the eyeshadow really helps it stay.
You don’t need a lot either.
I just use my finger and dab a little bit over the lid.”
She uses Maybelline New York’s Volum’Express mascara in either waterproof or washable.
Alexandra Schupper starts with either the CoverGirl Lidlock primer or Nyx Professional Makeup’s Proof it Waterproof eyeshadow primer.
“I think it really comes down to personal preference.”
Schupper uses Revlon’s ColorStay 24-hour foundation for combination skin.
“I’ve been using this product for probably 15 years.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
“I always loved playing with and trying on my older sisters' and mother’s makeup.”
Her favorite products include Revlon’s ColorStay Overtime Lip Color.
“I’ve tried them all.
This is the least likely to feather.”
For eyes, she loves NYX Professional Makeup Retractable Eyeliner.
“It’s also inexpensive.”
She’s been using both affordable products for more than 23 years.
“I would spend more, but it’s nice that I don’t have to!”
