“We’re now introducing Wednesday to a whole new audience,” said McDonald.

“[Were making it] a bit more modern, a bit more contemporary like a cool teenager.

Tim Burton, I spoke to him in depth about this.

[He was] very keen to keep her natural and not go too heavy with makeup.”

While braids were non-negotiable for a teenage Wednesday, her hair almost wasn’t black.

“This is crazy because we were almost not going to make it black,” said McDonald.

They were a dark brown to match Ortega’s natural color.

“It was the last hour and [we] were like we have to go darker.

It’s just not working.

For her fringe, McDonald noted that Ortega came in with longbangswhich were cut the day before filming.

For the lips,MAC’s Nightmoth Lip Pencilwas custom mixed withDr.

To prep the lips,Elizabeth Arden’s 8-Hour Creamwas mixed with sugar to gently exfoliate.

Her cheeks were hollowed out using MAC Sculpt and MAC Shadowy Lady.

Micropore surgical tape was used to cover apiercingon Ortega’s right ear.

“When I saw the dress, it needed to be up.

It was perfect.”
